The community Quilt group meets on Thursday mornings at the ACE project at 10.30 to 12.30 at 29 Hillcrest Road ( next to the butcher)
we offer a warm welcome and offer fun and friendship . Plus the opportunity to be creative and learn new skills.
No prior experience needed.
ACE needs as much support as it can get and its success is measured in foot fall.
There is no need for weekly commitments to this project but we would love for you to produce a square to express your thought of Abergavenny.
Please pass this on to anyone who you feel would be interested.

The ACE centre is a community meeting point and is a valuable resource for us all.

A belated happy New Year to you, and the Abergavenny Transition Towns team. Just to let you know that we are launching our 2nd micro hydro co-op on 4 March, with the launch meeting the night before (3 March) in Llangattock, then a 2nd presentation in Abergavenny on Tuesday 4 March.
we have booked the Holy Trinity Church Hall in Baker Street again
This 2nd co-op is going to be a much bigger deal than our first offer, as this time round we’re be looking to raise some £860,000 (final figure still tbc)  to build a further 4 schemes.

Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions

Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions. A FREE online course from the University of Exeter
Our very first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) begins on 13th January 2014 on the Open University’s FutureLearn platform, and lasts for eight weeks.

The free course is open to absolutely everybody – whether you are a student considering coming to university or are simply interested in learning more about climate change. The course is delivered entirely online covering a different topic each week.

Course content
‘Climate Change: Challenges and Solutions’ has been produced by eight leading academics from the University of Exeter – from mathematicians to marine biologists – and is led by Tim Lenton, Professor of Climate Change and Earth System Science, working in partnership with the UK Met Office.

The aims of the course are to explain the science of climate change, the risks it poses, and the solutions available to reduce those risks. It sets contemporary human-caused climate change within the context of past nature climate variability, balancing the ‘bad news’ about climate change impacts on natural and human systems with the ‘good news’ about potential solutions. These solutions can help avoid the most dangerous climate changes and increase the resilience of societies and ecosystems to those climate changes that cannot be avoided.

This course is an exciting opportunity for you to examine climate change from a fresh new perspective.

Are you a community growing organisation looking to explore new ways of increasing your income?
This day will provide you with the details of crowd funding, community shares, profile raising for income generation, linking up with businesses and loan financing, plus wonderful networking opportunities. There will be case studies, films and good food and company.
Chris Tomos, Social Entrepreneur, will inspire us on how communities can take control of their assets.
Phil Budd, Director, Swansea Community Farm, will share his experience on moving away from grant dependency.
Ken Elkes, Communications Manager, FCFCG, will demonstrate why public relations is vital to successful income generation plus an introduction to crowdfunding.
Ben Ferguson-Walker, Technical Development Officer for Ynni’r Fro Programme, will provide details of how community shares can raise income.
Mark White, Charity Bank’s Lending Manager in Wales, will be discussing loan finance options for community groups.
In order to cover the costs for the day including lunch, we are charging:

The World Dance Band has been invited to perform on the Music and Dance Stage for the newly formed WELLBEING MATTERS, Abergavenny on Sunday 27th April 2014 . We would love to have members and teachers of the Group there too to demonstrate and teach some of our dances to the community who will be coming along to this fun day.  We expect to perform for 2 half hour slots between 11.30 to 12.00 and 12.30 to 1.00 pm.
To help with fundraise for the Wellbeing Matters Day,  The World Dance Band has kindly agreed to play for a World Dance Family Ceilidh on Friday, March 7th 2014, in The Guide Hall, Abergavenny, 7.30 pm – 10.00 pm.  Please keep both these dates free it you can!
WELLBEING MATTERS  is a health and wellbeing Abergavenny focus group which is hosting an awareness-raising , fun day.  There will be around 70 free stalls there for people and organisations in this area who promote health and wellbeing in the broadest sense  i.e. physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing for people of all ages.  World Dance  of course enhances peoples’ wellbeing on all fronts.
If you know of anyone connected with sport and fitness, music in all its forms, dance, yoga, tia chi, complementary therapies, mental health work, advice work, spiritual work, traditional health providers, drug abuse advisers, youth work, groups which alleviate loneliness ….. the list is endless, who would like to participate in this event to raise public awareness of the wealth of expertise available to enhance our health and well being, please contact Cathryn Llewellyn and Liz Barnett  (copied in) who can advise on having a stall for the Wellbeing Matters Day.
