Zimele UK

Newsletter September 2013

Welcome to the latest edition of our Zimele UK Newsletter. It’s been just over six months since our last update; we still need to work on getting this out more often.  We hope you’ll be as excited as we’ve been to see the progress in South Africa and glad to hear about our continuing efforts to support the work there.

Fundraising events in 2013 have seen us continue with a couple of local traditions, such as the ‘Toddle’, and also explore new areas like the Big Give Garden Party over in Gloucestershire.  We’ve broken new ground with funding from Wales Africa Community Links to establish friendships between Abergavenny and Swayimane in South Africa. This enabled 2 of our trustees, Tom and Rebecca, to visit the project and see Zimele in action first hand.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We hope you enjoy a fruitful Autumn!

UK Fungus day

Hello one and all,

We’re hosting an event for this years UK Fungus Day. The day is aimed at all ages and is open to anyone with any interest in the fascinating world of fungi. We hope the day will be educational, fun and enlightening.

On the day you’ll be able to join us for a fungi foray around the Coed Hills site. We have a great range of habitats here so there will be a good range of fungi to be seen.

We’ll be showing videos and projections of fungi related media, and we hope to have the grand opening of our new Fungi Lab, where we will be cultivating edible and medicinal fungi.

There will be the chance to see fungi up close under the microscope, try a taste of some of our tasty edible mushrooms, and various other fungi themed fun throughout the afternoon. 50 lucky visitors will also go home with their own mushroom grow kit.

The event is free to attend, teas and coffees and light snacks will be available from our cafe. Please come with waterproof clothing and foot wear, and a field guide if you have one.

If you are a local mycologist who could assist with the walks, or if you would like to help out with the running of the event, please get in touch, we’re hoping to make this a great day, so we need all the help we can get!

The day is free to attend, but we may have to limit numbers, so if your interested in attending please visit our website and complete the form at the bottom of this page :www.coedforestgarden.co.uk

You can find out more about similar events across the country, and the people behind making UK Fungi Day a reality at  : http://www.ukfungusday.co.uk/

Hope to see you there!
