 Our friends at Llangattock Green Valleys CIC have set up a pioneering renewable energy co-operative with the aim of raising £270,000 to build two community micro-hydro schemes, one in Llangattock, one just outside Crickhowell. These trailblazing schemes – the first in Wales to be funded by a co-operative share offer – will generate renewable electricity, create income for further community projects in the Brecon Beacons, and provide investors with a projected return of 5% per annum, averaged over 20 years.
 
HMRC has also given advance assurance that the share offer qualifies in principle for Enterprise Investment Scheme tax relief. This allows qualifying investors to claim tax relief of 30% of the value of their shares in the first year, boosting the effective rate of return to 8.1%. So, a win all round!
 
You can invest anywhere from £250 to £20,000 and the share offer closes at the end of this month. The co-operative has already raised over £90,000 towards their target, and if you’d like to know more, the group will be staging a special presentation for us ahead of our film screening on Tuesday 19 November. The presentation will start at 6pm with a brief talk, followed by Q&As, and will wrap up in time for our screening.

You are invited to attend a showing of the DVD ‘In Transition 2’ at 7pm on Tuesday 19th November in the St Michael’s Centre, Pen-y-pound, Abergavenny. This will be followed by a general discussion of the issues that the DVD raises.

 

A small contribution will be requested to cover tea, coffee and hire of the hall
